Undocumented Patch Changes For 18th December, 2008

Edit: Emergency maintenance no.2 going on… Will there be a 3rd emergency patch? Here are clarification of some things they didn’t document in their patch notes. This post will be constantly updated. Most tests concluded.

13 devils have been sighted in the client files:

Plugin for Pallas Athena, Hokuto Seikun and Seiten Taisei are given as a reward for having 90 memories recorded in your Akuma Zensho. Raphael/Nyarlathotep/Phantom are from defeating the boss in Shibuya/Nakano.

However, there is a bug now: Despite what cave claim, players that already claim the old rewards are not able to claim the new plugins. Hopefully this is fixed during the SECOND emergency patch.

The other new rewards for completing the akuma zensho are immature plugins, which allow you to fuse immature devils. So far, I’ve seen paravati, queztlcoatl. cait sith etc… as tri union fusible with these plugins. I’ll write up a complete list later.

Request from devils range from “okay” to “wth this is retarded”. They are basically daily quests from WoW.
All of the quest needs to be completed within 3hrs after you received it.

My omoikane request for a chin to be fused. Pretty simple. Reward is a small amount of xp/makka.

However my Odin ask for something really retarded: Kill 4 nightmare kirins and 4 nightmare jack lantern.
They are in 2 different dungeon and don’t always spawn…

You can choose to display either your code name or your clan name. You cannot enter your own code name, it is chosen from a list of code name you “earned” though the quests with devils.

The new dungeon requires 100 suginami G1 seals in order to enter. It’s basically a timed boss rush against all the bosses in suginami. Can’t remember the time limit, somewhere around 4-5mins.

Basically garm -> decarabia -> 4 elements. Comes with all their minions as well.

We run out of time at the sugi gold stage.

Some CP items like mirrors and certain mirrors are also sold via COMP shop for CP now.

Balance wise, the pendulum has pretty much swung the other way.

With the way speed affect cast time/cool down now and 1/2 of m.attack being used for damage calculation for magic bullet, gunners are now doing the highest single target damage by far.

When crystals such as suzaku and armor such as the white china dress are factor in, they can attack nearly instantly with fairly minimal cool down. The lack of an AE attack is still a pain, but with a low enough ping, gunners can clear an entire room before the mob get close to them.

Mages have quite a huge boast in damage as well. I’m still in the midst of reenchanting my paravati enchanted gear to decarabia, but prepatch, I do ~1.9-2.4k damage against Gandharva with sharpshoot and am now doing ~2.6-2.9 damage post patch without sharpshoot. Probably reach ~3k once I get my gear done. Part of this damage increase is attributed to me raising magic rush to class 5 from class 4 though.

As a general rule of thumb, 2 strength = 1 magic for mages using magic rush and 2 magic = 1 speed for gunners using magic bullet.

Chin/elf has an effective worth of 0.75 (2 magic/speed = 1, -1 str/magic = -0.25 1+(-0.25)=0.75)
Badhbh cath/gandharva has an effective worth of 0.75 (1 magic/speed = 0.5, 1 str/magic = 0.25)
Decarabia/hel/loki has an effective worth of 1 (2 magic = 1)
Paravati has an effective worth of 0.25 (2 magic = 1, -5 str = -0.25 x 5 = -0.75 1+(-0.75)=0.25)
Hresvelgr has an effective worth of 1.5 (3 speed = 1.5)

The higher the effective worth, the better.

Melee? No change in them except sharpshoot don’t work for them now, nerfing those who abused it for damage. Damage is frankly low now compared to mages/gunners and they need to boast int to 100 in order to maintain the 50% damage bonus from enhancement. On the other hand, this also means that they are free to dump all skill points into weapon/survival knowledge, reducing repair cost.

A melee chain expert that takes 50% of m.attack into damage calculation will probably be implemented soon and when that happens, melee will probably reign supreme again.

Enhancement is now affect by both intelligence and the class/rank of your enhancement skill. Cap starts off at 30% and increase every class you have, up to around 80% at class 5. Damage boast itself is int/2, subjected to the cap placed by the class/rank of your enhancement skill.

tl;dr: 100 int and class 2 enhancement needed to maintain the old +50% effects.

For re-union, if you want to improve the base stats of your existing devils though the re-union bonus system, you will need rune stones that are rare drops off various treasure chests. Rune stones are not needed if you just simply want to change the growth type to another.

I hope chain-sniping will get the job done more effectively.

      Well, the only things that’s can’t be knocked back now are the bosses/sub bosses in Suginami. Jikokuten and co. has been changed for quite a while to be knockbackable.

      Regarding your other comment, maxing out speed/magic is probably the thing to do if you want to concentrate on madan, along with getting a 5 slot cal maria/death colt or basically any gun with high rng/m.attack. 腕部狙撃 is the only skill left in madan that don’t take m.attack into consideration.

      160 speed = 24% cooldown/cast reduction. Add 20% from china dress, 20% from gun knowledge = normal range shot cast at 36% of normal speed, 56% for madan. Further reduced to 21%/41% with dead west.

      Add the fact that gunners receives damage boast from drill comps now, you will see a good 20-30% damage and 24% faster cast time by doing next to nothing.

      5 slots = crafted, 3 slots = CP unless mentioned. I leave out alignment guns since they don’t have any slots.

            Yeah I meant that efficient attack doesn’t matter much when the CP weapons are readily available and much better overall. Actual madan usage besides 2-5 isn’t ever a whole lot with these weapons.

    maybe I am too stupid to unterstand your post or whatever but I just finished war with my three characters and all stay the same. My magic main chara did even more damage then before and only with the normal magic buff.
    Need to take a closer look and try out more next week.

    after reading your reply it seems Jackpot, Avalon and Dead West are the best option for maximizing madan (Irejiguru is nice too but kirins reflected it…). Kinda relieved I dont have to redo crystals, rapid will still be useful for dealing with really close range threats.

    Oh, I really need help with one more thing. It seemed the ImagineUpdater runtime error I’m having right now really plagued some players on Japanese community and there’s seemed no apparent solution for it, I have did everything I could save for re-installing windows (dirext X runtime reinstall, distributable C++ runtime library reinstall, malware and virus removal, uninstall reinstall on different folders, etc), I used a friend’s PC to download the files but on every update the problem still persists, sometimes it also shows kernel32.dll error. Any advice on what to do next? Really need your opinion on this >< (CAVE tech support is like ran by corpses btw, no reply up till now)

      When windows crashes it again, look at tech info(with the application and dlls loaded info) and post it here.

            Shot in the dark, but sometimes it’s because of IE or .NET. I suggest completely removing .NET and reinstalling and upgrading IE.

      Death colt and the used-to-be-useless +10% rapid guns aren’t that bad either. Just enchant them with Cu Chulainn and you don’t really need to worry about kirins.

      Cu chulain’s crystal has an additional effect now as well; +20% magic damage bonus if an item with Scathach’s crystal enchanted is equiped.

      Scathach’s crystal is not implemented yet though.

      Range shot enough to kill koppa tengu etc, amnesia shot etc is more than enough to 1 hit kirin with the new boasts w/o fragrance.

      5 slot fire modded death colt/cal`maria is enough to 3-4 hit by alternating range shot/fire shot gandharva w/o fragrance.

      Rapid isn’t that useful now since normal range shot cast insanely quick, but it depends on your play style I guess.

      Try and mess around with compatibility modes if you are using vista for your patch issue.

    From 2ch about ranks. What I don’t understand though, is why are other ranks recorded, sure I get so you can probably switch without needing runes… but what’s the point? Surely you would of settled on a specific stat or 2 you want to raise… changing resets the level and all stats they have gained too…

      I’m also unsure as to what each stone does? There are small, big and something else, you can select them when going to abyss sub-rank. Is that even considered rank 2? Confusing…

      You start off at rank 1 of a particular growth type.

      If you want to re-union to the second rank, you will need rune stones. This will give a stat bonus to your devil.

      e.g. Jack Frost starts with 小さなハガラズ. That is considered as rank 1.

      If you re-union him to 深淵ハガラズ, he will gain +2 p.attack/+2 m.attack to his base stat. This will be considered as rank 2.

      If you re-union him to 深淵ハガラズ again, he will gain another +2 p.attack/m.attack to his base stats. This will be considered as rank 3.

      Maximum is rank 8.

      There’s also a (level-20)/10 restriction of when your devil can be re-union to the same growth type.

      e.g. need 30 to re-union to rank 2, 40 to rank 3 etc… up to 90 for rank 8.

      Each reunion will reduce your devil to level 1. If you continued up to rank 8 in the above example, your jack frost will gain a permanent +14 p.attack/m.attack to his base stats.

        I see. I question though as to why all 3 stones are shown during rank 2? Someone said for rank 3 you require 5 of the small runes or 1 big rune, but he’s from Turkey and I don’t necessarily trust his translations and theories.

        Also, are you sure enhance is minimum 30%? Seems much lower.

          You can choose the type of stone to use for reunion. Small = store bought. Rank 5 onwards, you can’t use small rune stones anymore for reunion.

          Rune stone requirements per rank:

          Rank Small Normal Large

          After that you can only use the other rune stones to re-union.

          Enhance:

          You won’t reach the cap if you don’t have enough int.

          Class 1 enhance, 10 int => 5%
          Class 1 enhance, 80 int => 40%
          Class 1 enhance, 100 int => 40%
          Class 1 enhance, 200 int => 40%
          Class 2 enhance, 100 int => 50%
          Class 2 enhance, 200 int => 50%
          Class 5 enhance, 200 int => 80%
