Aeria Fails – The Extended Version
So, the posts are starting to make its way around and people are making comments, saying that I’m showing off, or that I’m mean, crazy etc.. for finding fault with a nice/great/inserotherstuffhere company that is bringing in a free game.
If you’re only reading my blog for the first time, sure, that may seem true. However, if you’ve actually been reading about what’s going on, you’ll know what the heck is actually happening.
I’ve no love for Aeria. Why? Because there are a tons of reasons.
1) Treating Translators as Slaves.
Even before Aeria held a close beta for Imagine, they tried to contact me to help out in translating the game.
That’s before they even put that up this post on their forums.
They contacted BlueJr as well, though I don’t know what arrangement they tried to make with him.
I translate a ton of JP -> EN stuff, mainly anime script and for better or for worse, other than my atrocious grammar and weird arse typos, I dare to consider myself a decent translator.
My text dump right now shows me that Imagine has around 50k lines of text. At 200lines/hour, that’s 250hrs, or if you work on it 8hrs a day full time on it, a month at least to finish.
What did Aeria offer me for my translation service? Early close beta access and 30k AP.
30k AP is around US$300? Sounds like a lot but it’s for a month’s work and on top of that, since it isn’t real cash, I’ve to use the money BACK on their game.
Paying what is basically nothing to get someone to translate an entire game for you? Sounds great!
As expected, negotiation failed and rumor said that Cave ended up doing the translations themselves, and Aeria were to produce slaves to proofread it.
The QUALITY of the translations is definitely there, and till date, most of the mistranslations I pointed out in my post dated DECEMBER last YEAR still hold.

2) Censorship
During early beta, quite a number of posts linked to the infamous SMT sucks post or the sequel Cave sucks, because face it, Imagine is a very incomplete game.
Most of those post have been removed now.
Remember the crystal sword fiasco?
Sure is Chirugai being smart and bringing in ToS to censor things.
How about the reset item one?
“Hurrr, we don’t have it in our patch”
“Okay, we do, but we don’t want to activate it”
“No, no, Cave has complete control over it.”
Which is the truth? Probably the second one.
The moment something negative pops up, the ToS get tossed, thread gets “moved” or locked. Is this the appropriate thing to do?
3) Incompetent GM/GS Team
Most of the GSes know fairly little about the mid-high end game and the GMs are as bad.
We have people like our wonderful Chirugai and Cenic who claims to have played the Japanese version for a long time, and yet, know little about actual changes.
Cenic has quit so I won’t really elaborate on her now, but when she was active, every link from Aeria to my blog has her commenting that my blog is lying or inaccurate because she “don’t experience the same thing on the JP server.”
A little birdie told me that when Tanarin pointed out that the selling price for plasma junks have been reduced significantly on the JP server on the shoutbox, Chirugai in her infinite wisdom denies that such a change has took place, and that she’s still pulling the same amount of money off the plasma junks on the JP server.
Someone had to pull out a wiki link before she admit that she might be wrong and that it’s a VERY recent change. Yeah right, a change made 2 months back is recent.
Too bad I didn’t get the exact logs about this, but I would appreciate it if Tanarin or whoever was involved with the conversation to back me up on this.
Chirugai also says that Aeria knows the content of their patch.
I guess that’s why there are patch notes up on the forums, right? Or why no one at Aeria noticed that the quest kill counter is bugged?
Imagine is not a grindfest... Wonder what level our dear Chirugai is? Must be 90+ by now, right?
Tons of things to do in Imagine as well, like sit in Shinjuku Babel and look pweeettttyy.
Could find a ton of other dumb claims if I want to probe further.
Now, for the GMs themselves.
GMDantine claims that Cave has up to act 36 in development.
Newsflash. Right now, the Japanese version only has 16 acts and act 16 was released in August 2008, 11 MONTHS ago. Cave has TWENTY acts in development and they didn’t release ANY of them?
GMDantine also implies that they have tested the Nightmare Jackfrost on their test server, which is completely BS as if they had actually test it, they would have noticed that those frost will never learn any skills, among other problems.
Heck, remember the low level throne given out during one of their events? That’s “bugged” in a similar manner.
The whole nightmare frost thing is pretty much a scam.
During the entire reset item fiasco, they claim they can’t get Cave to make any changes, and yet, they are willing to contact Cave to fix the nightmare frost for their top spender? Sure is consistent treatment, Aeria.
As for GMXandamere, he’s propagating the rumor that Cave has a lot of acts in development.
This time though, Act 17 to 32? 16 new acts?
In the entire history of Imagine, Cave never add more than 3 acts at once, and the last time they put in 3 at once was back in June 2007. 16 acts out of no where… Yeah right. You and Dantine are obviously working on a different version of Imagine than what I’m playing.
Cave publicly promised a dungeon in Nakano during open beta and 2 years later, we’ve yet to see it.
Cave didn’t mention how many or if they are working on acts, and yet, Aeria has information that more than 10 of them are in development.
Amazing, just amazing.

After day 4, my accounts are still not banned.
If you’ve actually read the whole wall of text, you’ll understand the motivation behind why I’m “hacking” the game.
Aeria keeps tossing their ToS on players who express dissatisfaction with the way they do things.
Since they like their ToS so much, I’m openly challenging them to ban me by BLATANTLY breaking their ToS.
If they can’t even do something against me, what are they chances that they can do something against actual hackers?
What’s the whole point of their ToS then? Nothing more than a tool to silence players who express their dissatisfaction?
Inb4 “lol, this is a game, ysosrs? Get a life!!!!”
I’ll probably continue to flame them till they stop using their ToS as an universal excuse.
Or maybe, just maybe I’m doing all this because drama is fun to watch… Uu~.

I’m still amazed by the way they handle that.
Do they dare to remove abuser reports that are beyone their capability? Hell yeah THEY DO!
While it may be bad to business had they admit there are things out of their hands, not being able to straight thing up when you said you can is as damaging.
I’d have given them more credit had they take it like a man and actually try and not covering it up.

I won’t blame the GMs that much since they’re just doing what they’re paid to do. I suppose being on Aeria’s payroll is, from a certain point of view, ripping them off. Good job I say.
On the other hand, the GS system is a complete failure.
What they really need is a performance review since apparently some of them is pretty much making unsubstantiated claims and ruining their image, free of charge.

Aeria is bad hoster, that’s right. If I ever knew that before, I wouldn’t try megaten. All they’re doing is talking about crap like “What colour xandameres fro should be?” or things they don’t have any idea about. They got paid for sitting in babel and thinking “What’s even better way to get $$$”. What’s my exprience? If I will ever look for any other mmorpg, I’ll add “-aeria”, even if it means I’ll skip best games ever.
megaten was the first Aeria game I ever played so I came in knowing nothing about how sleezy their company is. Of course after 2 months of gametime it all became clear so quitting was the best route to go. Sure I spent like$30 or whatever the hell it was on shit in game but eh it was fun while it lasted.

Because Imagine is the best game for RMTing dess.
Which is one of the thing that also trouble me. Imagine’s in-game is so worthless since It’s so easy to farm macca via always-in-supply plasma balls. I think it still holds even after the selling price nerf.
Never in any MMORPG do we have such source of income that is zero-risk (few plasma field have powerful mobs around) and take minimal effort (clicking at the right time). This is botter’s heaven.
It’s a wonder why there’s still demand within the RMT market.

Still, to be fair, it’s all because of Cave’s bad game design.

I’m only logging into Aeria’s server for my “hacking” challenge, and to prove that those accounts still aren’t banned.
Yeah, that little birdy is about right with how that conversation went. She tends to deny a lot of stuff until someone pulls out a wiki link or machine translated patch notes from Cave. Another good one was the recent Q&A GS edition, where Nephare and Yuki would answer questions about stuff going on in game. Needless to say that didn’t go too well. Here are a few examples:
Didn’t know where to get summon orbs other than bazzars.
Didn’t know about the C5 Curse of the wicked.
Didn’t know talk went from Mind affinity to Almighty affinity.
Didn’t know where a saravastri DCM was located.
After that I left.
I’ll be the first to admit that when I don’t know something or am wrong and then go to look it up. It seems it isn’t the same with Game Sages.
Those questions are still pretty easy to reply if they actually bother to search for the answer.
Better questions will be:
How does 10% hp boost for devils work? (30hp, static)
How does 10% mp boost for devils work? (20mp, static)
Range of cannon spells? (150)
What determines the damage for cannons? (Used to be m.attack only, stealth changed to m.attack + rng.attack after the expert skill changes)
Stuff above are only known by breaking their ToS (Dumping data off client files)
Are elemental spins sill p.attack only?
Funny you mention that last one. There are still people that claim it is m. attack only, even though some people in my clan (myself included,) went and proved it wrong. People claimed it was within the variance for the damage even though the damage boost was pretty noticable. Question though, what is the modifier for cannon, and for that matter the elemental spins? My best guess is 180 for the cannons, but I can’t be sure on that and I haven’t seen anything here or elsewhere saying what it is.

Just some small, unspectacular notes about GMJjoLt.
Again, I have no ss’s because it didn’t happen to me personally and in this instance, there’s no ss to take but well…just what happened.
My fellow sub-master had a question about AP being a first-time AP buyer and that day, most of the GS’s weren’t on and she didn’t want to ask any new GS’s they “officiated” in May (?) so she waited until one of those hide and seek events were over to ask JoLt. The event was already almost over and she found him in babel so she telled him. Apparently he was very reluctant to be answering her questions, was rude and eventually kind of stopped replying to her…so she had to track down downbook who actually tried to answer and help her out.
The one time I decided to try out that lagfest “Giri” killing event; you were supposed to tell a GM so they can tele you there. The channel I happened to be on, I tele JoLt and guess what? No reply, no tele. OK so maybe it’s not guaranteed but if he has time to take random screenshot poses here…then?
Maybe he’s busy or w/e but *shrugs*.

I’m SpencerC, the Producer of MegaTen for Aeria Games.
I’m sorry to hear that your experience playing MegaTen at Aeria Games was not satisfactory for you. We try to offer a fun and free experience on our servers, and sometimes we do not satisfy everyone.
You’ve made a pretty long post, but I’ll try to respond to a few key points you’ve brought up.
#1) MegaTen’s translations were done by a professional gaming translation service, checked over by Cave, and checked over by our in-house localization team. We also gave our community the chance to contribute to the translation because there are some individuals who wanted to do it–even for free. You’ve underestimated the amount of text to translate by a lot, but admittedly, there are still some glaring errors. We’re constantly evolving the localization, and I think most would agree that they’d rather have us focus on fixing major functionality bugs than typos. We’ll get to all the typos too, it just takes time.
#2) We try to run an open forums on our own site for players to give feedback about our games. We take this feedback to heart when we negotiate changes with developers. However, not all feedback is sent in a constructive way–sometimes it’s only meant to incite hostile argument instead of debate. Wading through pages of online yelling, to us, would not be fostering a fun environment for our players.
#3) We are proud that many of our players know the games better than we do ourselves. We have very dedicated players, and we appreciate that they often share their knowledge of the intricacies of the game with our GS & GM teams. The goal of our GMs is to provide a fun environment for our players–while they may not have answers to all the questions off the top of their heads, they always make an effort to find the answers. Most of the time, they’re handling common player complaints or troubleshooting technical issues. Even though they would love it, they don’t have the time to devote to actually play the game as deeply as many of our players.
Our Game Sages are highly valued members of our community. They are not paid staff members, and I’m often disappointed in how some players treat them disrespectfully. I think they do a great job and add tremendous value to our community.
#4) We actively ban hackers when we can. No game company has done this with 100% accuracy. We don’t often like to remove players from our community, but we do so when their actions are severely ruining the experience for other players or the longevity of the game.
I probably did not respond to all the points you’ve brought up, but I hope I, at least, replied to the major ones. Our team does listen to feedback. While we can’t monitor all the posts on the blogosphere, we sometimes search around to hear the honest opinions of our players. Thanks for your post, and we hope to constantly improve to provide a better free online gaming experience each day.

1) Professional gaming translation? It’s insanely bad if you actually call that professional.
“Some” glaring errors?
How is fuel tank, instead of material/resource tank or “too many peoples are currently logged in”, instead of “multiple login attempts detected”, mistanslations that are missed not only by the “professional” translation company, but by your localization team as well?
These are texts that can be seen within 5 mins of logging into the game.

The only thing remotely hostile is your own GS twisting the words of the players to incite your PLAYER’S hostility.
3) Not knowing much about the game is fine. But inventing rumors? Showing favoritism?
Is that part of your GM’s job scope?
At this point, your GMs are making the game not fun for your players due to how they behave.
Have they really done their job? The whole nightmare frost promotion reeks of inaptness since they obviously didn’t thoroughly test it out on the test server.
Not all your GSes are bad. but nothing apparently has been done to those that proved to be problematic.
Tons of complains about Chirugai and lunacrescent, but has there been anything done to them?
I don’t expect your GMs or your GSes to know as much about Imagine’s mechanics as me, but they should at the very least admit that they are wrong, when the situation calls for it.
Seriously, tell your Imagine team to buck up.
No one dares to voice a darn thing on your forums since pretty much anything remotely negative is threaten with a ToS violation.
On a side note, I’m more than willing to advise your Imagine team on Imagine’s mechanics/bugs/etc…, provided that something appropriate is done to improve the situation.

As much as i hate to say this …. Imagine is getting worse day by day ….. i only play or continue to play this game due to fact i’m a fan of the series …. This GAME LOOKS DEAD… ALL I CAN SEE IS the company trying to get MORE MONEY out of the game by altering or introducing some items each week without even doing anything to the game itself… i mean where the hell is the plot? what about the glitches …. and all i can say is the GMs are useless other than trying to show off more and more :S

To me, those GS that replied to the post had no idea what they are talking about.
rules can only work if they are enforcable.
1. No account sharing
you need to ensure that whenever the account is connected, it’s the same person behind the screen.
you probably need a facial recognition system for that, which mean every player need to at least get a webcam.
2. No multi clienting
You need to be physically within players’ home to detect dual-boxing.
Aeria have yet to demostrate capability in detection and removal of multi-client users:

Wow, so the issue is finally cleared up, to an extent.
“Okay, I’ve checked into this further with the higher-up folks at Aeria, and have some additional clarification.
Multiboxing (running the game on 2 or more computers at the same time) is fine, there are no restrictions on this.
Multiclienting (running multiple copies of the client on one machine) falls under the same category as changing the background music. It requires editing the game client, and is thus against the ToS due to it violating Cave’s intellectual property.

So now, it’s basically 2 Accounts Playing Together = Fine, however, just not on the same computer. whoop-te-doo, we’re right back where we started, no?
Even without modifying the client, you can still start multiple instance of the client via logging in multiple Windows account and switching users yada yada.
Doesn’t mean a darn thing at all.
It does mean sumthing attacker, cause they don’t have MAC adress checkers within program, and with a router, there is no way of determianing the difference between multibox and multi client
Help me to relay the following:
Multiple clients can be opened by using multiple window accounts.
i.e. Log in as account A, start Imagine -> Switch to another user without logging out -> start Imagine on new user with account B.
Doesn’t require imagineclient.exe to be modified, yet multiple clients can be opened. Is this against their salad ToS?
Also, the Japanese client, if it’s the same version as the EN one, is able log in to Aeria’s server by just modifying ImagineClient.dat to point to Aeria’s server instead of Cave’s server.
Doing this, a user is able to start 1 EN client instance, and multiple JP client instances, without requiring ImagineClient.exe to be edited.
Is this against their salad ToS? They have been telling people to edit ImagineUpdate.dat after all. Or is this another selective thing?
FWIW, the Japanese client allows multiple clients by default, and there are times where I log in 5 a/c on 1 PC and 2 on another for synthesis purposes.
Discussion is essentially useless because for every one person who tries to make a valid argument there’s like 100 asskissers to argue against it. Argument is turning out to be like World of Warcraft where people who can’t multicient are butthurt so they whine and want to keep others from multiclienting. Surprised? -_-

it depends where you stand in the pecking order , if you are very very low than don’t count on a reply, the highest tier gets the best spots always, so it won’t be different in an online game
and after a long and hard try at FC and other stupid tiered promotions i am done with ap spending, i will do my craft and roll in macca that way, if they don’t want it ,pfft i will at least hord it and wait till they are skinned :P
i am not gonna spend 100$ on damn consumables which i don’t even use and just give away to clannies

@Loriel, lol yeah we think the GMS “helping” is actually favouritism. Which is stupid, if one were asking a favour from a GM “Can I have free shit?” or other things “Can you pose and take pictures with my friends and I ^^” then yeah, that calls for favouritism.
But asking a GM about AP because one isn’t sure whether the GS’s know what they’re talking about and having that GM be unwilling to help, as well as unresponsive ABOUT the game then that goes against Spencer’s blurb about what GMs are for.
some of the GM’s cannot answer more than what the company allows them, that’s why they sound like a broken record sometimes XD
that’s why i tend to ask other players for stuff i need :3 and pray i never have to deal with aeria on anything
Well I understand tricky questions they’re not supposed to answer . But my clannie was asking something simple about AP for First Time Buyers and it seems the GM just didn’t feel like answering because he was too busy/didn’t want to be bothered but with an attitude.
That reminds me, I forgot to save a ss, but according to GmDantine Aeria didn’t know when the hourglass of the lost/macca reset items for under level 30s were added to our version. So when they update Megaten, do they have no clue what new content is added? Also seeems fishy since they were so adamant about it not being available for us at first…I’ll just assume they don’t really know what’s going on about patch updates.
Im sick and tired of all this aeria bs >>; my friends are getting banned for pointless reasons and for our facts..stating our oppinion in public is apparently a bad influence for new players. har har since new players start out in dead home3 but what sucks more is that 99% of people hate the system, gs’s, and most of all are just sick of it .-. im glad that neph is out of gs business but yuki is still there. in fact my friend just got banned because of another persons mistake and jolt isnt doing a thing about it. oh blah blah blah send in your imput and other crap >> i highly doubt anything will change. to be honest the only reason i wanted gs was because of sekushi the rest of the gs’s seem to be jokes. all and all we just need better people to run a game .-. -yay for my rant-
ill also add that in a convo with yuki` in msn i nearly got banned simply for asking where the hell she got her stealth suit from and she gets up this case telling me about im “harassing her and causing imfamation” -_- right not to mention that when i talked to iBleach all he said was “go kiss and make up” like that solves anything so whatever .-.
Yeah actually although I see cenic5/Sekushi being made fun of, comparably she was still better than the ones now. When I first joined, at least she answered everything I asked her patiently and seemed to try her best.

i complained much and hard about that box, since for some reasons i started getting all of the bottom list stuff x3 so napalm and mirrors in the same combo as some other ppl i got told by many of the “aeria team” that it’s not rigged since some ppl got it at first/second try :) i want to meet them, seriously :)
i played the yukata FC and guess what? bottom list prizes again :)

It’s not like we JP players are happy with how CAVE handling the lotteries neither, I remember having the Seraphic mage set and got it obsolete on the next 2 weeks, I finally bother to upgrade after waves of rare2common fiasco, and guess what? I had really hard time selling my old gears. Finella was mass producing flamies crystals back then since she keep changing her gears which was obsolete another week after and after and after.
If Aeria cant control Abyss FC as they said, then they better buck up since the next lotteries are basically murders of previous lotteries. Ohohohohohehehehahahahahaaaaa.

My progression was…
Red Rider -> Salon -> +Rush Bikini -> Green Angel -> Abyss -> Sentinel -> Law LNC China -> Current MI/20% top
Upgrade from green angel to the 20% top happened in around a month.
Think I produced something like 40 flamis, 3-5 hecate crystals, during that month for sale/personal use.
Most of those armor are still rotting in my warehouse.
I still have quite a bunch of stuff to work on, so I’ll take a look at that later before making a larger post as a response.
There are so many problems with Aeria game I don’t even know where to begin…lets see:
1, Their decisions are always right.
2, Most of the GSs are noobs who makes irresponsible stupid comments on forum and they get super defensive when there are criticism from players.
3, Lame event ideas and half-ass job all the time
However, the fact is that Megaten just wasn’t a completed game…after spent 6 months with it, it feels like CAVE is just out to make some quick cash. Aeria’s management just made the NA version much worse. I have no idea what took me this long to finally decide to quit this game.
At least it’s been really fun reading Finella’s blog. Thank you for that and it has been really helpful. I guess your blog has became a place in which Megaten players feel safe to make some critical comments without being deleted.

Anywho, what ever happened to dem’ wings I wonder??? Reclaimed or put on the backburner until they do get released like the Medic sets? Hmm, may have a screenshot where another gamesage was confronted about this somewhere and said he felt that Sekushi had deserved the hand outs… will have to look for that to post it..

So finally a GM is stepping up and claiming no one got abyss cloaks. I believe JonGhost did buy the floating boxes but they neglect to mention the other two here.
Well JonGhost is a forum Game Sage and not a Megaten one. I don’t think anyone was ever questioning where he got his stuff, though he was the one who made it an issue.

i wasn’t even pointing to him when it came to abyss cloaks, but how many rares have the GS horded if they got so much stuff to trade off for abyss cloak, don’t tell me yuki traded her gospel for abyss, since in now way is the “coolness of flying” comparable to gospel O_o
and nephraes black phoenix for abyss? thats set had a macca tag of 18 mil, the cloak a tag of 30 mil and more, so who in hell would trade it for that low?
they smikred on my offer of 3,5 mil for 7 sister set after the tiered promo when i found 8 of those vouchers in the trade list at the same time , so they just embrace the loss of like 12 mil so she can get the floaty cloak?

Well…the phoenix set does have some great stats but getting the phoenix set itself isn’t that easy or cheap.
i don’t think so, but i haven’t seen her for a long time, maybe she got the cloak just when the phoenix set arrived, traded it with somebody, dunno
but i know that the cloaks are valued at 30 mil by all of the ppl, and as we know nobody would just go and loose 12 mil :3

Even Nephrae admitted to that incident stating that the GM was no longer with aeria that was involved with that. You should remember that.
