Double Standard in Salad ToSing
The following can be found on Aeria’s wonderful ToS:
You may not (a) sublicense, rent, lease, loan, sell or otherwise transfer the Software or the Services (or any part thereof) (b) modify, adapt, reverse engineer or decompile the Software, or otherwise attempt to derive source code from the Software; (c) create any derivative works in respect of the Software or the Service; or (d) otherwise use the Software or the Service except as expressly provided in this Agreement. Title to the Software, and all rights with respect to the Software and Service not specifically granted under this Agreement, including without limitation all rights of reproduction, modification, distribution, display, disassembly and de-compilation and all copyright, patent, trademark, trade secret and other proprietary rights and interests are reserved to AGE or its licensor(s).
Unless you are living under a rock, it’s common knowledge that I analyze Imagine’s client files. i.e. a form of reverse engineering.
Per Aeria’s definition, this is a violation of their ToS.
Back when the site was brought down in October, panic sets in. One of the most ironic thing I’ve ever seen was certain game sages encouraging people to scour over google cache and whatsnot to copy information to the Aeria owned Imagine wiki.
So copying information provided by violating the ToS is completely fine and inline? If I gave botting instructions and those that copied over, is this still fine?
Also, don’t forget how in the past, Aeria as a whole has attempt to censor links to my blog.
Fast forward to now, we have someone copying my devil listing, and passing it off as an “update”.
Heck, there’s even a poll started by a GM about it.
Even the numbering and icon filenames got copied wholesale.
Various other entries were also filled with information derived from my site.
I’m all for information sharing. Heck, that’s what I’ve been doing all this while. But this double standard is pretty funny.
Why toss the ToS when copying ToS violating information is encouraged?
Or is everything okay as long as you remove all references to the blog here?

Yay, I can look at the blog again.
Anyways, on topic. What are we to expect from a company that tries to use Aeria Points as a form of payment?
Or from a company that discourages gold selling…………unless they’re the ones making the profit.
This is more about the game sages than Aeria itself though…
I’m pretty certain you know who I am, and that I’m a sage.
Either way, I’d just like to add that none of the current sages copied your devil listing. A former sage did, I wont point any fingers, anyone know you can check the “updated” demonic compendiums history and see who created it in the first place.Anyhow, this was without consulting the sage who, per-se is in charge of the wiki.
That said no one is really in charge of the wiki as it’s a community driven source for information, nonetheless Kuenaimaku is the main contributor to the wiki.
Either way, cheers.
Frankly this blatant copying of ToS breaking material into Aeria-owned sites occurred way before this recent attempt by Sleipial.
My question still remains on why such data were not removed. Same goes for copying data off ahirukumi, a private site filled with data retrieved from hacking the client files.
The later is something Kuenaimaku is very guilty of doing.
ToS only apply to users, is impossible to impose a ToS to somebody that are not using the service
If you research on the public client files except the SOFTWARE is fine, who know what the SOFTWARE exactly is?
Even if you use the PUBLIC server data to give extra services that the provider is not able to (like server status) is fine too
If they dont want that other people give good use to the public server services, is a problem of the administrators not of the rest of the world
And keep your good work, copies will be always copies ^^ (but forks are good and healty for any project too)
ps: the SOFTWARE has you…
Ignoring the bad English and whatsnot, the ToS still applies simply BECAUSE the nature of the information itself is a violation.
It’s like saying copying bot information from an external site to Aeria’s wiki is okay because the one who broke the ToS is the one who wrote the bot.
