Tales from the Crypt V: CoC2
A summary of what actually happened/get implemented with CoC2 since translating the trailer site is a waste of time.
First off, what happened in CoC1:
Basically CoC is a new quest chain that reuses Snakeman/Yamamoto from the main episode. Lore-wise, it basically assume that the main episode with Asura and co. never exist.
CoC1 consist of 3 “acts”. They are branded as act simply because it reuses the window of the main episode. Length-wise they are each as long as Act 1 of the main episode. i.e. can be completed in under 10mins each.
A new area was added with CoC1: Shinjuku Babel’s Residential Area. That’s where most of the new NPCs were added.
There’s a 20hrs enforced cooldown period between each act. i.e. finish act 1 -> wait 20hrs -> start act 2.
Act 1 to 3 basically have you investigate a new trend that’s happening in Shinjuku.
More and more people are turning up in Shinjuku with devil parts surgically implanted in them, and in most cases, these people display a change in behavior.
Snakeman is worried about this, and ask you to investigate this.
At the end of act 2, you discover that some cliche evill organization is behind it. A parallel plot is then started in act 3.
DB Kisugi, another DB that was sent to investigate the incident has gone missing, and you’re tasked to search for him.
At the end of act 3, you find him in Touchou’s Helipad. After defeating him, you discovered that he was possessed by Omoikane. The Amatsukami have taken an interest in what’s happening in Shinjuku and has sent down their representative to investigate.
CoC2 adds another 3 acts. The same 20hr cooldown applies, except between 5 and 6.
In act 4, Omoikane reappears in front of you and tells you that your ancestor did something horrible. He then curse you and run away.
The curse basically drops your luck by 50.
After talking to a bunch of NPCs, you discovered that the only one that can help you is the Kunitsukami, Sukunahikota. You eventually find him in Souhonzan.
In act 5, Sukunahikota ask you to search for the whereabouts of the legendary Nanatsusaya-no-Tachi.
After talking to some NPCs, you heard rumors about a cursed god that was imprisoned below Shibuchika, and he is causing miasma to flow throughout the place.
Eventually, you obtained permission from Yamamoto to investigate the area.
Shibuchika is a dungeon that’s pretty much a reskined version of Ichigaya Garrison. i.e. a series of small rooms, than a flight of stairs down to the boss room.
HP/MP do not regen naturally in the dungeon, and HP/MP drops at different rates depending on which boss appears at the end.
No plates are required to enter the dungeon, and you can repeat it after completing the quest. However this is a mid level dungeon, and gives xp on par with Catacombs.
Back to the “plot”. At the end of the dungeon, you discover that the cursed god is Takemikazuchi and he’s holding on to the Nanatsusaya-no-Tachi.
The sword shatters after you defeat him. Only the sword base remains. At this point, you summon either Omoikane or Sukunahikota to ask them for help.
Omoikane/Sukunahikota explains that the sword and Takemikazuchi are linked together. By destroying one, you destroy the other. The splitters of the sword have travel across dimensions and are now scatter in different places.
Act 5 ends, and act 6 is started immediately. The cursed status is also removed at this point.
Your task in act 6 is to find the 6 splitters and reforge the sword.
The splinters are in the following dungeons:
Quartz
Suginami
Suzaku
Catacombs
Cell
Ichigaya
The splinter appear on the floor of the boss room after you’ve cleared it. Difficulty doesn’t matter, but the splinter doesn’t always spawn.
In Cell, a mysterious girl appears after you’ve collected the 5th splinter, and commented that she was too slow.
In Ichigaya, the girl appears just as you are about to collect the last splinter. She steals the splinter from you and runs away.
Acts 6 ends here.
Note that the splinters and the sword base cannot be traded/destroyed. So, you end up with SIX inventory slot wasted to them.
The xp from the quests is negligible, but the makka reward is somewhat decent.
Act 1: 80k XP, 50k Makka
Act 2: 100k XP, 100k Makka
Act 3: 150k XP, 150k Makka
Act 4: 100k XP, 80k Makka
Act 5: 150k XP, 100k Makka
Act 6: 200k XP, 150k Makka

Uh, Fifi, dear, I believe the word you’re searching for is “negligible“. =p Also, can the splinters/base be put in an item deposit? If so, at least it means we can stash it away on a mule while we wait for the rest of the quest to get released…
Fixed. Probably click the wrong things on Firefox’s inline spell-check.
You can mule the stuff, but it’s still 6 wasted slots.
Considering the fact that you end up with useless items, it seems like it would have been better for them to have waited to release the new acts in a complete chunk to avoid the situation. I guess they’re just uber focused on making good on the promise they made to keep new content coming at a “steady” pace.
When the quests were first released, the splinters were treated as items. Later on the quest was changed so that the splinters are added to the Key Items list. Those who completed the quest early are still stuck with six wasted bank slots.
Was it just the splinters that were changed, or did the base sword get changed to a Key Item too? I haven’t done the quest with another character yet.
… What?

Also, screenshot of Act 6 started 30mins ago.
I’ve no clue on what you are talking about.
Really? I thought it was one of the changes to CoC that was done after the quest was implemented. I guess I have to go through the old update notes.
http://finella.nemissa.info/tag/patch-notes/
You are probably confusing it with something else.
The promise is already broken. New CoC acts are supposed to come in every 2 months, but CoC2 came in at the 2 1/2 months mark. Can still argue that 2 1/2 is still 2 months rounded down I guess.
For reference:
CoC1: 17th December
CoC2: 4th March (10 weeks)
We’re already on the 11th week since CoC2. Earliest possible CoC3 is at least 2 weeks later since they’ll usually create a trailer site a week before things get implemented.
This would mean that CoC3 came in exactly at the 3 months mark.
The curse will be removed on the end of act6?
Reread.
