Lyrics: Maeda Takahiro
Composer: Matsumoto Ryouzen
Akatoki mo Matenu Omoi Utsutsu ni wa Au Yoshi mo Naku
I cannot wait till dawn to show you my feelings, despite the reality that we are no longer able to meet each other.
Nagaki Yo ni Mimodaeshi wa Mata Koishi ya
I writhe in agony during this long night, because I… still love you
Nubatama no Kono Kurogami Tsukiyo ni Hanachi Kizuna to Nare
My flowing jet-black hair blends into the moonlit night
Misora Yuku Tsuki no Hikari Saa Kizuna to Nare
The moonlight shining down at my body. Ah… they have blend into me too.
Ayashi Yume Izanau Towa no Hodori
Strange dreams beckons to me, tempting me towards an eternal world.
Kono Mi Hikisakareshi Koi wa Tomadou Bakari… Aa
It’s tearing my body to pieces. This love is nothing but a delusion… Ah…
Oroka ni Ikitemashita Demo Shiawasedeshita
I’ve lived a foolish life, but I found happiness in it
Koi wa Ikiisogu Mono
Love is something spontaneous.
Kakusenu Omoi Desu Tsuki ga Nijindeimasu
I can’t hide my feelings as the moonlight washes over me
Nemurenu Oboro
I’m unable to sleep under this tearing moon.
Kanashige ni Tanabiku Kumo Hoshi Sakariyuki Tsuki wo Hanare
The clouds linger in the sky sadly, moving away from the moon which has distanced itself from the stars
Tenchi no Wakareshi Toki yu Ikutabi no Sadame
The moment the heaven and earth splits apart, is something predestined to happen countless times.
Koishikeba Sodefuru Imou no Gotoku
You’ll feel comforted once you experience love.
Tada Itoshiki Uta wo… Saredo Haruka Kanata… Aa
However they are now just something far away on the other sife… even though they’re poems of love… Ah…
Hajimari wa Doko Deshou Owari wa Doko Deshou
Where did we start? Where did we end?
Dou ka Todome wo Sashite
Please put an end to it all
Umarekawaremasen Anata ga Inai Nara
I don’t want to be reincarnated if I can’t be with you
Kono Yo wa Hitori
I’m left alone in this world
Anata Shika Imasen Hoka ni wa Irimasen
I don’t need anything else as long as I have you
Subete to Hikikaete mo
I’ll exchange my entire existence for you
Nakisakendeimasu Ki ga Kurui Sou Desu
I’m screaming in agorny. I’m going mad.
Kanashii yo Oboro
I’m filled with sorrow under this tearing moon
Oroka ni Ikitemashita Demo Shiawasedeshita
I’ve lived a foolish life, but I found happiness in it
Koi wa Iki Isogu Mono
Love is something spontaneous.
Kakusenu Omoi Desu Tsuki ga Nijindeimasu
I can’t hide my feelings as the moonlight washes over me
Nemurenu Oboro
I’m unable to sleep under this tearing moon
Note 1: The story behind this song is basically a dead girl singing about her boyfriend. She still lingers on in the realm of the dead, thinking about him.
(Sodefuru Imou) literally means a younger sister waving her sleeves.
Around the late half of the 7th century, it’s customary for clothes to have sleeves that are longer than the length of their arms.
Waving of ones sleeves serves as an expression of ones feeling/concern/etc… for another, when they are leaving/away/etc… , much like how we wave at someone nowadays.
The sister in this case means a younger woman.
I did a more liberal translation since doing such an act is calming/comforting by nature.
