Baneful Rune Post 1.3

Using my analytical abilities on less crappy games

I’ll use our Johlen attempts since we didn’t have Spotter’s Order on it at all.

For Ray, Baneful proc 11 times for a total of 1042.

19 crit rating enchants = 1.03% crit.

Filtering out attacks that can’t crit (charge booster, weapon enchants, trinket/sigil procs etc…)

Ray
Total damage is 267724
201 crits out of a total of 385 attacks = 52% crit
Total Crit damage is 175978
Total Non-Crit Damage is 91746
Average crit damage/hit = 175978/201 = 875
Average non-crit damage/hit = 91746/184 = 498

Assuming 53.1% crit over 385 attacks:

Total simulated crit damage = 385 * (531/1000) * 875 = 178880.63
Total simulated non-crit damage = 385 * (469/1000) * 498) = 89921.37
Total = 268802

268802 – 267724 = 1078

Assuming 0 SO uptime, 19 crit would have possibly yield 36 more damage over baneful rune.

However, this change the moment we introduce Spotter’s Order.

Without Spotter’s, the damage increase from a non-crit to crit conversion is (875/498) = 176%

Looking at Ray’s 385 attacks, 205 are DOT ticks

Assuming 50% SO uptime:

Baneful: 1042 + (11 * 43 (it’s a DD now) * 0.5) = 1275.5
Base: 267724 + (205 * 27 (spotter’s order for DOT) * 0.5 (uptime)) + (180 * 43 (Spotter’s Order for DD) * 0.5 (uptime)) = 267724 + 2767.5 + 4472 = 267724 + 6637.5 = 274361.5
Extra SO damage = 6637.5
Average SO damage/hit = 6637/385 = 17.24
Average SO crit damage/hit = 875 + 17.24 = 892.24
Average SO non-crit damage/hit = 498 + 17.24 = 515.24

Assuming 53.1% crit over 385 attacks:

Total simulated crit damage = 385 * (531/1000) * 892 = 182356.02
Total simulated non-crit damage = 385 * (469/1000) * 515) = 92990.98
Total = 275347

275347 – 274361 = 986

At 50% SO uptime, 19 crit produces only 986 damage while Baneful produced 1275. Baneful outperforms 19 crit by 289 damage.

With Spotter’s, the damage increase from a non-crit to crit conversion is (892/515) = 173%, which is lower. The higher SO’s uptime, the lower the conversation ratio becomes.

tl;dr: With raid buffs/debuffs, Baneful is the best enchant for 1-handers. Same thing applies to warriors too, not just rogues.

The higher your crit rate and/or higher SO uptime, the better Baneful is.

It’s not as good as pre 1.3, but it still outperforms 10 dex/19 crit runes in a raid environment. For 5 man, the other two runes are better but not by much as seen in the 0 SO example.

p.s. I hate you Ray for making me crunch out all the numbers.
