To my knowledge, nothing in next week’s release requires the purchase of an AP item in order to fight a specific boss. We’ve deliberately chosen not to implement certain items that way in the past, even when the Japanese release required purchase to participate. (For example, the apples in Apple Hunt are given away in our Megaten, but were sold in Japan.) I don’t discount the possibility of AP items that make something easier — that is what many AP items do — but we try to leave non-spenders the existing methods of adventure and advancement.
